Romain Dumas started the number 23 mail2web.com/Hyatt/Alex Job/Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, from the back grid as a result of not being able to post a qualifying time. By lap ten the Frenchman was running strong in third place in the GT2 class and moving up on the leaders. By lap 73 Bernhard had the car in the lead. After the shuffling from five caution periods the Panoz retook the lead. In the final 20 minutes of the race Bernhard and the class leading Panoz were locked in a battle for the number one position. The Panoz driver was taking a defensive line and with four minutes to go, Bernhard was going for the pass when the Panoz got slightly off line, made contact and spun him heading into turn seven. The IMSA officials brought Bernhard in for a stop-and-go penalty for "avoidable contact", relegating him to second place.
